Luci Shaw, "Gossip"

It was as much about feeling duped
as being supplanted.

No cell phones or TV, but
the grapevine worked swiftly enough.

In his castle in Jerusalem,
Herod vented his frustration, cranky as

a squirrel ranting, head down
on the cedar trunk, tail quivering with rage

at territorial invasion. King? King?
What king? Not in my backyard!

While God was parking his throne
elsewhere.
